Abstract:
EARTHQUAKE_LIQUEFACTION_IN is a point shapefile that shows sites where paleoliquefaction features have been identified in the field by Pat Munson of the Indiana Geological Survey and by archeologists of the Department of Anthropology, Indiana University, Bloomington. The ages of the features, which were determined by radiocarbon dating, dating of associated archaeological artifacts, and flood plain stratigraphy are all within 20,000 years before present.
Purpose:
The purpose of EARTHQUAKE_LIQUEFACTION_IN is to provide a GIS layer showing the locations of known paleoliquefaction features in Indiana. Such features were caused by strong-motion earthquakes having energies equivalent to Mb 5.0 or greater.

The original coverage, EQLIQ, was first reprojected to UTM Zone 16, NAD83. This coverage was then clipped to another coverage, INCLP83, containing the area within the 92 county boundaries for the state of Indiana, which was compiled at a scale of 1:24,000. The resulting coverage was converted to a shapefile named "EARTHQUAKE_LIQUEFACTION_IN."

An updated shapefile, PALEOLIQUEF_PTS, was provided by John Hill of the IGS. PALEOLIQEF_PTS was reprojected to UTM Zone 16, NAD83. This shapefile was then renamed "EARTHQUAKE_LIQUEFACTION_IN." This version replaces the former version of EARTHQUAKE_LIQUEFACTION_IN that is described in the above process step. The new version contains the following additional attribute fields: Quadrangle, County, Exposure_L, No_dikes, Width_larg, Depth_to_b, Inferred_e, and Site_code. Also, the new version was not clipped to the boundary of Indiana, so that additional points exist along the Wabash River.
